Curb Appeal Overhaul

Curb Appeal Overhaul

The very last part of this renovation was to get the curb appeal of this dated 1965 home just right. It still needs to fit on the street, but just needed a few touches to make it look like a modern family could live here in 2022.

Before:

Immediately following my first trim of the shrubs

Original front rail

Another shot of the front

Back door and railing

During:

I painted the white front door Bold Blue,
and I'm obsessed with it.

New back railing

My mom took out 2 of the giant front shrubs

Joe dug out the stumps

All the shrub cuttings at the street

Shrub out, dad built a window box (that mom and I filled)
and installed a new railing, look at that blue door!

front steps, sidewalk, and driveway

After:
Backyard freshly cut and edged

Freshly cut front

Power-washed front steps, no more moss!

New storm door and railing on the back

Complete front view

What a difference!

Still obsessed with that front door

A few odds and ends:

I love the lighting that is in this house, so I wanted to add a few photos of the fixtures here as well!

These gorgeous fixtures are original
to the house, mom just painted
the base silver from gold to update!

These fixtures were originally in the
front and back entryways. We saved them
on a shelf in the basement while construction
was happening. I love them so much!

We moved the one from the back entry
to the hall, so you can see them both from
the living space!

My dad chose this fixture for the dining room
it has bubble glass and an Edison bulb

It looks so good with the mid-mod vibe
of the house!

Beautiful Bathroom

 Beautiful Bathroom

The main bathroom in this house needed  A LOT of help. The blue bathtub, toilet, and sink all had their moment in 1965 and would probably have been cool if they had been properly taken care of. Sadly, they had not and they had to go. My parents hired someone to come in and refinish the bathtub, which was in fine condition and is cast iron. Then my dad put in a new floor, toilet, and vanity (which we got on a fun trip to Ikea!). He also replaced some wall tile that got broken from removing the old vanity. Mom picked out an amazing shower curtain and now it looks like a place where you could actually get clean!

Refinished tub is now white

Appliance Arrival

 Appliance Arrival

So much is happening in the kitchen. Cupboards, the butcher block counter for the sink, and the sink are in. All the appliances have arrived and have been installed. The sink also has a beautiful tile backsplash, and the cupboard hardware is on. Also, durable, beautiful flooring and a fresh coat of paint!  It. Looks. Great.

A-door-able

A-door-able

For a cute little house, it has A LOT of doors, and all of them needed to be updated with some white paint. Three coats of white paint each to be exact. They also got updated with new brushed nickle hardware. It is amazing what a little time and paint can do to freshen up and modernize a space!

Half Bath Overhaul

Half Bath Overhaul

Off of the back bedroom and accessible from the back hall via a pocket door is a cute little half bath!  Just like the rest of the house, it was like walking back into 1965 and ready for an update.

View from kitchen to back hall,
through the bathroom into
 the attached bedroom

Vintage pink American Standard
sink and toilet

Linoleum continued from the kitchen

Dad removed the toilet and sink, and scraped up the linoleum floor. Then new lifeproof flooring, toilet, and a sink with a vanity have been installed. There are a few final touches that need to be completed, but the major overhaul is done! It is amazing how different the half bath looks!

New floor, toilet, and vanity
(peep that freshly painted bedroom!)

Bottom draw of vanity will be installed
and a new mirror as well!
